This in-depth course covers the standard principles and best practice guidelines in relation to working with and supporting people with indwelling urinary catheters. It includes: anatomy and physiology; the possible reasons for urinary catheterisation; the risks associated with catheterisation. It includes the theory of insertion of the indwelling urinary catheter in both males and females; how to care for and maintain catheters; how to respond to common catheter problems and the importance of record keeping in regard to catheter care . It is expected to take learners 40-60 minutes to complete.
