This training module provides information generally on restraints. Each home must also have a written policy that says how they will try to avoid using restraints whenever possible. You must review this policy prior to working your first shift in the home. The policy must say when they will use restraints and explain what the law allows them to do.
The content of this training module has been adapted from Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO)’s Residents Bill of Rights booklet and the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)’s Educational Tools on Understanding Restraints .
